I love Spring!  It just might be my favorite season. The days are getting longer, flowers are blooming, birds are singing…sounding kind of corny…but seriously, there’s a reason the saying is “spring fever” and not “summer fever” or “winter fever”. I feel like spring is about new beginnings and brings with it a whole new energy. That’s why it’s the perfect time to run, whether you’re starting as a new runner or working on being a better runner. There’s no better time than spring!

Top reasons Spring is the perfect time to run:

  • Mornings are sunny and cool. The perfect running weather. Unlike winter when you have to talk yourself into going out in the cold to run. Or summer when you need to run before the sun wakes up or it’s too hot. I just need to start earlier than the winter months because it can potentially get too warm, quick.
  • Flowers are blooming. I love the smell of flowers when I run. Just a whiff makes my heart happy. 🙂 My route looks so much better when the trees are blooming and grass is green.
  • Energy boost! With warmer, sunnier days comes energy. At least for me. My mood is totally driven by the weather. The number one reason I moved from the East coast to Southern California. I NEED the sun. I don’t lay out in it but I love being out in it.
  • Trail running! This is a great time for trail running (or hiking). The weather is still cool, everything is either green or turning green depending on what part of the country you are in. Wild flowers are out (yes I like flowers a lot) and you may catch a glimpse of wild life. I don’t care if it’s a rabbit, a squirrel or a lizard, I love running into the creatures that live among us. (Not so sure I’d feel the same about seeing a mountain lion, but that has never happened…phew.) For more on trail running check out this post.
  • Get that body ready for shorts! There’s a saying ” Summer bodies are made in winter.” Well if that didn’t work for you, then spring is definitely the time to get that summer body ready! It is time for getting outside and moving. Even though I run all year long with not much of a change in my schedule, as the weather gets better and the days are longer, I spend more time being active.

I hope this post inspires you to run. Enjoy the weather and get outside and move!

I love spring! Sadly it snowed (again last night) and temps are frigid. We haven’t seen this kind of cold this late in the season in over 100 years. I’m feeling kind of robbed of spring.
