Running’s My Favorite

Running is my favorite!

I’m sure if you are reading this then you probably feel the same. We all have our own reasons for running and why we love it but here are a few of mine.

Running friends are the best…

Running connects me to other people. If you meet another runner you are instantly connected. There’s that commonality that brings you together and while you might not become best buds, you are friends in the moment. But there really is nothing like running friends to share your running stories with. (Thus, this blog group.)

My favorite pastime…

Okay this might be an exaggeration because I do like my afternoon downtime with a book and a cup of tea but running is there to clear the mind. Running is my alone time to listen to a book, podcast or music, or sometimes to zone out and think.

I love being a runner…

I’m a runner and everyone knows it. I inspire people without even realizing it. I’ve had co-workers come up to me and tell me about how they ran their first mile or 5k and they are so proud. I love to share that with them. Some tell me my IG posts inspire them to go for a walk or get back to the gym. I love being that for them. Those comments keep me going too.

Running is strength…

Running makes me feel strong, even when I’m not. My slowest run still makes me feel good. I could start out sluggish and come home feeling like a rockstar. Running does that.

Running takes me outdoors…

Whether it’s my local streets, the beach or a trail, I love being outside. When I’m outside I see animals (from coyotes to dolphins), flowers, sunrises (not often but sometimes I’m out that early 😉 ), snow capped mountains…you get the picture. Stuff you wouldn’t see otherwise.

I meet neighbors while running…

I recently stopped to tell a lady that there was an egret on the street (not a usual occurrence in my neighborhood) in case she wanted to see it, and she told me she has seen me running with my dog (Sadie and now Luna) for years. We chatted about our dogs for a little while and now we wave when we see each other. Warms my heart. There are several other people I wave to, we don’t know each other except for these morning waves.

Are you lost snowy egret? Or looking for my fish pond?

There are lots of other things I enjoy doing to stay fit and healthy (cycling, Pilates, kayaking, SUP, hiking, skiing) but running is my number one.

What about you? Is running your number one?

Is there something you can add to my list of running favorites?

Currently I enjoy running and strength training equally, so I wouldn’t say that running is my favorite, but I am so thankful for all the things running has given to me, including the amazing blogging community.

Running doesn’t have to be your number one for you to be a runner. Strength training makes you a better runner too.

Running is my number-1, as well, but in recent years I have added many other fitness “fixes” to the mix. I just LOVE being active, and running is where it all began for me 😉 Everything you mentioned totally relates to me andmy love for running.

    • Denise | 2nd Feb 22

I love being active too. I love my bike, and riding with my sister, but running comes first.

Yes to all of it. I’ve considered myself a runner for a very long time. I truly believe running just makes us nicer people. I love the running community. I get a kick out of it when people ask me if I ran on a particularly cold or snowy day. Or they come to tell me they did. Warms my heart!

I love it when people ask questions or share their running journeys.

Running isn’t actually my number one. But I keep running, for some of the reasons you mention (not all). That’s great that you’ve had so many people tell you that you’ve inspired them to get healthier!

Running is my number 1, too!
That quote about running being the most relaxing part of the day is so true!
Just last Sunday we did an exhausting long run at 5.30am and it was the best part of the week! The exhilaration at being able to use your healthy body is indescribable.

    • Denise | 2nd Feb 22

Right? There’s nothing like that feeling. Then you can eat and lounge and feel good about what you have done.

Running is my number 1!!! For all the reasons you mentioned. It challengers me and makes me feel younger and fit.

    • Denise | 2nd Feb 22

I forgot to mention how it makes me feel young. I actually think it keeps us young.

      • Darlene | 3rd Feb 22

        Yes. I agree.

I truly love all the gifts that running has brought into my life. The friends that I have made have become my closest friends. Running allows me to push myself and keep me fit and strong

      Running friends are the best!

Running has made me a better person. It has given me confidence. It has brought wonderful people into my life.

    • Denise | 2nd Feb 22

      Yes to all those things!

  9. jenny | 2nd Feb 22

Running is my favorite too!!! The only reason I do anything else is to make myself stronger (or more flexible, etc) so that I can run more. I love it for all the reasons you mentioned. The main thing I would say is that running makes me feel young, and who doesn’t want that?

    • Denise | 2nd Feb 22

I totally agree! I don’t know why I didn’t mention how running makes me feel young.

I don’t know if it’s number one, but it is most certainly up there! This post gave me such joy!

    • Denise | 4th Feb 22

I’m glad I was able to add a little joy to your day. That’s what this running blog group is after all, am I right?

I love this! I like running too but right now I am not running because of the weather. Haha, sounds like an excuse. I don’t like the snow and ice because I am afraid I will fall. I am waiting for it to melt and to be a few degrees warmer. I’ve been enjoying being on my bike as well.

Thank you for linking up with us!

    • Denise | 5th Feb 22

I would not want to run in snow and ice either. I’ve been know to fall in normal conditions. 😜

      • Zenaida Arroyo | 9th Feb 22

Me too! Last year I tripped and hit my chin. Luckily it wasn’t that bad because I was able to use my hands to break the fall. I think that is how you say it? But I was terrified afterwards to run outside and instead used the treadmill. This was early 2020 so I didn’t have to wear a mask at the gym.

        • Denise | 9th Feb 22

It took me a while to shake off the fear of falling after I fell and whacked my head hard. I still get flashbacks every once in a while. 🥺

          • Zenaida Arroyo | 10th Feb 22

I believe it! For a while I would either avoid or walk whenever I was in the spot where I fell.

  12. Laura Norris Running | 8th Feb 22

Running is my favorite also! I love how it gets me outside and lets me explore.

    • Denise | 8th Feb 22

      Same here!
