I Run Alone, Yeah With Nobody Else

Yeah, you know when I run alone
I prefer to be by myself

I’m linking with Kim and Zenaida for Tuesdays Topics and the question of the day is “Are you a solo or group runner?” Thanks ladies for the link and coming up with fun topics!

You may have already guessed my answer but things are not always black and white.

Yes I run alone but that’s not to say I wouldn’t run with a partner if I had one. Way back when, when I was in my 20’s, (we’re talking waaay back) I had a friend that I ran with on Monday, Wednesday and Friday after work. We ran our first 5k together, we had the same pace and outlook on running…run 4 miles, maybe stretch a little, maybe not, and then eat. It was  perfect. And then she moved to Seattle and I never found another running partner. πŸ™

No worries though because I enjoy running solo. It gives me time to think, I can run at my own pace, and run whichever route I chose. I think it makes me stronger mentally too.

~After all, it’s one thing to run away when someone’s chasing you. It’s entirely another to be running all alone.~ Jennifer E. Smith

I have ran (run?) with various people over the years but life gets busy and complicated so running becomes easier when done solo. Technically I am not alone because I’ve had a dog to run with for the last 20 odd years and while they don’t talk to me they do keep me company. πŸ™‚

I do enjoy running with a large group of strangers. Running races puts you with a community of like-minded people giving you a sense of belonging. It can be the best feeling ever and probably what keeps most of us going back for more.

I also like to do my long runs with someone but unfortunately that’s not always easy to do. My work schedule varies as does many of my running friends so trying to connect gets complicated. My training plan for Boston is to join a running group. I know it will make those long @ss runs more tolerable. Running with a group can help improve your pace too…there’s always someone faster than you that you want to keep up with.

Do you run alone or with somebody else? Do you think runners are a little bit “loner” as a general rule?

Thanks for reading and keep running!

I do enjoy running solo because I can run at my own pace and not have to worry about holding anyone up (I’m not a fast runner).

I feel the same way but we probably worry unnecessarily because runners are nice and would adjust their pace for us without complaint. πŸ˜‰

There are some local gals (and guys) who run, but we don’t typically all run as a group (other than a few times a year for organized holiday fun runs). I do a lot of long runs with a friend, and occasionally we meet up in the early hours before work (or after work). I do a lot of runs solo, though, and those are just as rewarding. I like variety LOL

Even on organized fun runs I find that I end up running alone. I start off thinking we’ll stay together then I get competitive (with myself) and want to PR.
      Variety is good!

I like running alone for similar reason you stated. Ha, you and I should run together. πŸ™‚

Ironic isn’t it. As runners we have the same views but yet we still end up running alone. πŸ™‚

I enjoy running alone! It’s my time to listen to my music and be in my head. I will run with other people, but I find that I crave my solo runs.

Sometimes I feel antisocial because I like running alone, but it’s my time, I can socialize afterwards…and probably be a nicer person then anyways. Lol

I have not run alone in ages! I am so lucky to have my running group friends
