Coffee Talk: June ‘21

Welcome to June’s Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah. While I don’t have a lot to share this month I do like to read what’s going on with everyone else. So grab a cup of coffee or whatever your beverage of choice is and let’s get to it.

Over coffee I’d share with you that Global running day came and went and I barely acknowledged it. My plan was to run with my new running club and post a picture but my low back had a different plan. My back has been spasming since Tuesday and nothing seems to be helping. I didn’t want to mention it on IG because I don’t want sympathy and I don’t want to be that person who always has something wrong. Hopefully today will be the day it snaps out of it. 😉

Update on the back issue. Way better now but still not running. It’s all good. One day at a time.

Over coffee I’d tell you that we are heading out on a camping trip today with the family and now I’m worried that I won’t be able to do all the fun things. I guess my husband doesn’t have to worry about me beating him at corn hole. Hahaha. I just might be sitting in a lounge chair with a cocktail in hand.

Over coffee I’d tell you that we were able to get an airline credit for our (twice) cancelled trip to Boston, so that’s good, but I feel like I should still go and cheer on all the runners. Unfortunately the rest of the family can no longer go for various reasons so it would just be me and the hubby. I’m thinking of a long weekend trip to Chicago instead. Any thoughts on that from my Chicagoans? Is October a good time to visit?

Chicago or
Boston

Well that’s about it considering I’m now camping while trying to get this posted. Hope everyone is well and having a great weekend.

Does anyone else suffer from random low back spasms? What do you think, a week in Boston or a long weekend in Chicago?

Thanks for reading, sorry this is late. :/

I’ve only been to Boston twice, both times for the marathon, but I’ve been to Chicago many times when my son was getting his MBA at U of Chicago. A few years ago, we went for a week in October for a conference and the weather was really nice!

Back spasms are no fun – hope yours continues to improve!

I grew up in Massachusetts and have only been to Boston a few times but have never been to Chicago so I’m leaning towards that.

Ahh, that comic. :[ I hope your back feels better soon!

I’ve been to Boston twice, once in the wintertime and once in the fall — I feel like there’s a lot to explore there and would love to go back sometime! I’ve only been to Chicago once in July–suuuper hot, but October should be a better time. Hard to go wrong with either!

Yeah, I’ve heard Chicago is great and I’ve been to Boston but I was thinking of going to support the marathoners.

I have had back pain before. The figure four stretches help and lots of stretching. Hope it resolves quickly and you have fun on your trip. I love both Chicago and Boston both were would fun!

    • Denise | 5th Jun 21

I pretty sure most of my back problems are from not stretching enough.

You can’t go wrong with Boston or Chicago in October. Both cities are great places to visit and great place for running. I hope your back is on the mend. I’ve been dealing with one niggling issue after another.

I’ve been to Boston but never during the marathon and it’s been many years since I’ve been in New England in the Fall so there’s that.

Hope your back is better and that you enjoyed your camping out!
And that you will have a safe & healthy week ahead!

    • Denise | 5th Jun 21

Thanks Ju-Lyn! My back is already a lot better, hopefully I can run on Monday.

So glad to hear you are feeling better: Hoping for a great running week for you!

Oh, OUCH on the back!! I don’t think I’ve ever had spasms (I’d probably remember those, I assume), but I do have occasional low-back pain. It’s almost always form sleeping “bad,” either dozing off on the cramped loveseat (with Max monopolizing the prime space) or sleeping on my back. Thankfully, it dissipates after being up and moving (which my early-morning fitness escapades play a big part!)

That’s great that you don’t have any back issues. My problems only started this past year. I sure I need to stretch more and strengthen my core.

October is a great time to visit Chicago! The weekend after the marathon, there’s a trail half and full marathon on one of the trails where I run. It’s flat and fast. It’s also very pretty. Just in case you’re interested…

I hope your back feels better. I laughed when you said you didn’t want sympathy–that’s why I don’t often talk about my injuries on the blog or IG. It’s funny how people hone right on in on that, lol. I just hate when my body won’t let me do what I want. Feel better!

    • Denise | 7th Jun 21

I have been looking at places to stay in relation to Deer Gove Forests Reserve. I didn’t even think to research races…duh. Thanks for the info!
Not only do I not want sympathy, to me it’s a sign of weakness and I don’t want that either. 🙄

Come to Chicago! I live here and it is a fun city. You will like it here.

  9. Darlene | 8th Jun 21

UGH on back pain. It’s the worst because it hurts when you do everything.

I have a great chiro and she has fixed my back problems.

I love both cities. You can’t go wrong with either one.

Camping sounds like fun. Hope you are enjoying it.

    • Denise | 8th Jun 21

Yeah, I’m pretty much over this back pain. I need to get back to normal. 🙄
I’m leaning towards Chicago since I’ve never been.
Campground was pathetic but had fun with the family anyhow. 🤷🏻‍♀️

      • Darlene | 8th Jun 21

oh too bad about the campground but glad you had fun.

Then you should definitely visit Chicago and maybe connect with all those bloggers that live in that area Erica, Marcia, Wendy, Zenaida

        • Denise | 8th Jun 21

I’d love to meet up with some of them.

So sorry to hear about your back pain. I’m glad that it’s getting better and hope that you are able to run again soon.

My vote is to visit Chicago! It’s my second favorite city (behind NYC).

    • Denise | 8th Jun 21

What about Boston? Aren’t you from the area?
My back is so annoying but thanks.

Have a fantastic time camping. Even if you don’t do much. A lounge chair and a cocktail sounds very relaxing.
