I’m linking up with hosts Coco and Deborah for The Ultimate Coffee Date, where we virtually share a cup of coffee, or your beverage of choice, and share tidbits about ourselves.

Before leaving please visit their blogs too.

the ultimate coffee date   If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I’m reading 2 books right now. I don’t usually read 2 books at the same time but I’m in the middle of A Column of Fire by Ken Follett

A column of fire

and then I started Let Your Mind Run by Deena Kastor and Michelle Hamilton.

Let your mind run

The first book takes place in the 1500’s dealing with religious conflict and power. If you haven’t read Ken Follett’s Pillars of The Earth, I suggest you start there. It’s an amazing book that kicks off a whole “series”.

I started Deena’s book because I’ve seen it mentioned on a few blogs and got curious. So far it is very inspiring. She is a true talent in the running world.

If we were having coffee I’d say how excited I was that I was able to ride the Santa Ana River Trail this morning. It’s been 2 years since riding that trail due to the homeless encampments that had taken over miles of the trail making it unsafe (and smelly). I don’t know if the homeless/drug/mental illness problem has affected your part of the country but it is out of control here. The city has relocated them to shelters, rehab centers and motels for now but it is only a temporary fix. What happens next is yet to be seen. I hope they continue to get the help they need. I do know they will no longer be allowed to set up camp on the bike trail and I am happy about that.

Love this stop at the end of the Santa Ana River Trail.

If we were having coffee I would ask your opinion on the whole Boy Scout issue. I just don’t understand why girls need to join Boy Scouts. Why can’t girls be Girl Scouts and boys be Boy Scouts? If girls want to do the things the boys do then why don’t they do them as Girl Scouts? And…I wouldn’t want my daughter camping with a bunch of boys and men. Do they now need to have a woman chaperone? Is it the parents creating this issue? Do the kids really care?

My sister sent this. Hmmm

Moving on…

If we were having coffee I would tell you that my favorite show on Amazon right now is Orphan Black. Is anyone else loving this show? It’s about cloning but it’s not all Sci-fi-like. The main character Tatiana Maslany is a Canadian actress who plays multiple characters and does an incredible job! Each character is so completely different you forget she is the same person. Check it out if you get a chance. (If you’re like me you probably don’t need another show to add to your list…sorry.) πŸ˜‰

How do you feel about the Boy Scouts issue? Do you ever read 2 books at the same time? What’s your favorite show currently?

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful weekend!

Keep running my friends!

Totally agree on the Boy Scout issue. I get the equal opportunities thing, but I also think Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts should be two different entities. Our son is an Eagle Scout, and we are so proud of all the hard work it took for him to earn that designation…and all the crazy camping trips he went on (with Daddy). Those were great guy-trips for them and I doubt the trips would have been the same kind of experience if girls were along (with their moms?).

I agree. I’m afraid boys aren’t going to want to join or continue with Boy Scouts because of this new rule. And boys do need that time with their Dads.

Orphan Black sounds intriguing! (and you’re right…I totally don’t need anything else on my list…I also just added The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel…) I’m reading Deena Kastor’s book, too. She is so inspiring!

I’m only a 3rd of the way through her book but she makes me feel like anything is possible with a positive mindset. Actually her coach was ahead of his time.

I read 2 books simulataneously all the time!! I’m usually reading a running book for my blog book club and then there’s reading for pleasure… You know I loved Deena’s book. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on that!

I have lots of thoughts about the Boy Scouts and that’s all I’m going to say….

Since starting Deena’s book I haven’t wanted to go back to my other book. I need to finish hers first. So inspiring!

We loved Orphan Black! It got a bit crazy at the end but luckily we could re-watch shoes if we got confused. :-). I don’t know if girls wanted to do Boy Scouts or if Boy Scouts were losing membership and thought opening up to girls would help ….

    • Denise | 6th May 18

I’m sure I could benefit from re-watching an episode or two.
I never thought of the Boy Scouts needing to recruit new members. I guess I should research more before I spew out my opinion. (I still don’t think girls should be in Boy Scouts though)

I used to be so good about reading but I have slacked off lately. Thanks for the reminder! I could use few more shows to watch I will check that out. Thanks for joining us for the coffee date great to have you!

Thanks for making me feel welcome.
I look forward to seeing if you like Orphan Black.

I’ll be the rare voice of disagreement πŸ™‚
I kinda hated being a girl scout. It seemed like all we did was crafts and snacks and the boys did all the cool stuff. A couple years ago my husband and I went along on a camping/hiking trip up a mountain with our friend’s family and their Boy Scout troop. It was a blast! The boys were well chaperoned by dads and moms and extra adults like us and there were a few sisters who apparently often tagged along on trips like this (so your pic, while kinda funny wouldn’t happen). I think if I had had the opportunity to do scouting the way my friends run their Boy Scout troop I would have had a lot more fun and been more active as a kid.

Thanks for your input. I was a Girls Scout for a very short time but quit because I thought it was kind of lame and wanted to do the things the boys got to do. (my brother was a boy scout) Maybe it’s time to rethink how Girls Scouts is run.
And about the comic, I really don’t think that would ever happen either. I know the Boy Scouts are very well supervised.
      Thanks for reading!
