I’m linking up with HoHo Runs and Wendy from Taking the Long Way Home for the Weekly Wrap. Please take a minute to check out their blogs.
I had an amazing week leading up to my weekend trip to Vegas to run the Purple Run 7k (a tribute to Prince). It’s always fun to post about an eventful week. Let’s face it, not all weeks are created equal.
Monday I had a strong 4 mile interval run, then took the dogs to the park to let them run. Sadie does a lot of walking around sniffing other dogs while Luna tries to get the other dogs to run with her. That evening I did the resistance bands workout with my daughter Hannah. A challenge in itself but more so with a puppy under foot. I should’ve videoed it, it was comical.
I knew Tuesday was going to be a good day after another strong 4 mile interval run, then came home to a new Runner’s World in the mail.
Yay! Reading material for my upcoming road trip to Las Vegas.
Wednesday I did a 3.5 mile run with Sadie at a 9:15 – 9:30 pace. Sadie wanted to walk the last half mile. We have both become accustomed to our slow 10 – 10:30 pace, but that’s not going to get me to Boston. It’s time to retire Sadie from running except for the short slow runs. π
After my quick run I went to my 2nd Pilates class. It was a little harder than the first but I still think the instructor was going easy on us because a few of us were newbies. We’ll see how today goes.
I ended the day watching the Red Sox beat the Angels 9 – 0! Woohoo! Go Red Sox!
Thursday was a non-running day. I had to be up and out early to volunteer at the annual St Joseph Hospital Charity Golf Tournament. This year they were raising money for our Emergency and the Behavioral Health departments. The day started off cold and rainy but the skies cleared quickly and turned out to be a beautiful day at the Pelican Hills Golf Club in Newport Beach. (How the other half lives.) Driving the golf cart was the best part! Check out the views!
Friday was another non-running day. Off to Vegas to run the Purple Run 7k. The race is the 2nd annual tribute to Prince run. This was my first year but may very well be an annual event for me. It was just my husband and I but we had fun people watching on Fremont street (the older Vegas strip). We saw some things I wish I could un-see.
Saturday was race day and I was hoping to PR. And I did! The race was a 7k (because 7 was Prince’s favorite number) which is 4.35 miles. It was warmer than I had hoped it would be with no shade to be had…but it was only 4 miles so I wasn’t worried.
I felt good the first 2 miles, 8:57 and 8:48, started slowing at mile 3 and walked for about 30 seconds, finishing the mile at 9:15. I was worried I wouldn’t finish strong. :-/ The last mile was my slowest (no negative splits here) at 9:28. My average pace was 9:05 which is really good for me. Not bad for my first effort at a fast short race.
I hope everyone had a great week. That’s a wrap!
Summer running is hard. Itβs right up there with running in the wind…
Iβve been listening to audio books and podcasts on most of my runs lately…

Congrats on your 7k PR! Must have been fun to go to Vegas for a race.

Thanks! Vegas isn’t my favorite place to visit because of the cigarette smoke, but my husband had been wanting to go and I’m a huge Prince fan.

Congrats on a great run and PR Denise! I love the theme of that race and it seems like Vegas is a perfect place for it. Yay for purple!

Thanks! I’m a huge Prince fan…not much of a Vegas fan but it was fun once I got over the cigarette smoke smell.

I’m doing my first Half Marathon in May and have discovered that the longer the run, the more comfortable I am! So I would say “long steady races”. π Well done on a great week of training and congratulations on a solid race!

I would love to run this race! I’m a Prince fan from way back. Sounds like a blast and the medal is cool Congrats on a fast time!
Denise | 24th Apr 18
You got a year to plan a trip to Vegas! It’s not a big race but then you have the whole day to do all the Las Vegas stuff. π

This sounds like a fun race. That’s such a cute tank you are wearing. I would have had a playlist of all Prince songs for it too! Congrats on your PR. The shorter races are so much more uncomfortable for me. I think I prefer longer distances where you must pace yourself to endure. LOL. Thanks for linking!

I lucked out on the shirt, found it Target. I’m hoping these short races will improve my pace for the longer ones. Dreaming of Boston. π

Sounds like a fun week! I pick Bandit up for my cooldown. Neither of us are very fast, but he also wants to pee every time I take a walk break, so it can get a little annoying. He does love it & just a little bit is great for him (he’s a little dogs).
I like every distance, except I haven’t tackled anything longer than a half. But they all have their pros & cons.
Denise | 25th Apr 18
Sometimes I swear Sadie just pretends to pee so she can stop a sniff the grass. I like all distance too, but I think 10 milers are my favorite…they end right about the time you’re wishing you were done.:-)
Chocolaterunsjudy | 26th Apr 18
Oh no, Bandit is actually peeing. Male dogs.
I have never run a 10 miler — yet. There aren’t many in this area, and most of the ones there are, are a good 45 minutes or more away. But what you said sounds about right!
15k is close to 10 miles . . .

Great job and congrats on the PR! I think I prefer longer races. I have a really hard time pacing shorter ones!
Denise | 28th Apr 18
Thanks Lisa! You definitely need a different mindset with a shorter race.
