Runfessions: Nov. 2021

Marcia has opened the Runfessional for all of us runners to bare our soles. It’s been a minute since I joined in on this  much needed soul cleansing. I’m here now and ready to runfess, so let’s get to it.

I runfess…

that I took a LOA from blogging, writing or reading, because I felt like I needed to find my true self. (I cringe a little just writing that) I felt like I was getting caught up in other people’s training, goals, and achievements. My content seemed stale or just a rehash of what other people were already saying but not as good.

I’ve decided to just be me and stop the comparison game. I don’t finish every goal I set out for, I’m not the fastest or strongest, but I’m going to be true to myself and do my best. And I runfess that I missed this tribe of bloggers, runners and like-minded women with whom I feel have become my friends.

I runfess…

I have said way too many times “This is my last half marathon”, and then I sign up for another one. I’m not sure why I sometimes feel like I should cut back on the miles  and stick with shorter distances. Usually I make this statement at the peak of training. Then I run my half, and  while crossing the finish line I know that I’m going to register for another one. Having said that, I runfess that I have registered for 2 more half’s. Surf City in Huntington Beach on Feb 6th and San Diego Beach and Bay on Apr 10th. It’s a weird addiction. But you get it, right?

I runfess…

that I totally spaced on this years Turkey Trot. I don’t run them every year (because I feel a little guilty leaving my husband at home to get all the turkey day things started. But if I’m being honest, he does the majority of the cooking anyways.) and this was the first year I had to work Thanksgiving anyways. So when I got the emails for a Turkey Trot at my favorite beach community I deleted them.  Then on Saturday I saw several IG posts of the Turkey Trot in Seal Beach. What the heck? I missed it! Ugh. My husband was like, “didn’t you read the email?” Well obviously not. I assumed all Turkey Trots were on Turkey Day.

Thanks Marcia for this opportunity to runfess.

Thanks for reading!

Oh that’s a bummer to have missed a trotting opportunity! But, that’s not deal-breaker for the love of running, right? I’m going to do a little logistical research on the San Diego half…that sounds like a fun one! My sister used to live there, and would be game to travel with me (though she probably would have zero interest in doing the half with me, but she might consider the 5K?).

I think everyone can do with a break from blogging/social media from time to time. The comparison trap is an easy one to fall into.

Nice that you’ve already got some 2022 races on the calendar!

It’s funny because I don’t compare others to me but I compare myself to others. If that makes sense.
Yes. I’m looking forward to a new year of racing. 😊

Oh no on spacing out over the trot! I kinda shake my head that I managed to host Thanksgiving (where I do do most of the cooking) and run a turkey trot for several years. This year we were on the road early, which worked out well as there was very little traffic.

My interests have changed, as they tend to do, and I do think about stopping blogging. And yet I’m still here. 🙂

    I’m glad you’re back!

The big Turkey Trot around here is on Thanksgiving, and I can never do it. I’m eitehr too busy in the kitchen or need to get on the road before I could be ready after the race.

      Thank you Coco.
Fortunately there are plenty of other days to run. 😉

I definitely noticed your absence and missed you in this blogging corner of the world. But I get it as well. A break is nice once in awhile and yes, comparison is draining. Love the two halves you chose! I runfess I did not trot either and I have a great race right in the center of town. In my defense I did have to do all the turkey prep stuff.

Nice of you to miss me. I didn’t realize how much I would miss this group.
I’m pretty lucky that my husband likes to cook. I do all the cleaning before and after though. It’s a trade off.

I missed the Turkey Trot this year, too. I’ll get it next year. You will, too!

It’s good to recognize when you need a break. Taking a step back is never a bad idea! Welcome back!

      Thanks!
Yeah, there’s always next year. I’ll make sure I read the emails next time. 😊

The “comparison trap” is something that hits me at least once a year even though I know better! It’s hard not to compare ourselves to everything we see in the blogging and Instagram world. Totally understand why you took a break and I’m glad that you’re back 🙂

      Thanks Kim. Missed you ladies.
I know better too but sometimes my better judgment goes out the window. 😉

What a bummer that you missed that there was a turkey trot on Saturday when you could have run it. I’ve done similar things (not reading the email in its entirety) and regretting it later… Here’s hoping there’s a fun race in your future that will reignite the running fire.

There’s a Christmas trail run this Sunday but it’s in San Juan Capistrano which is a bit of a drive for me so I’m probably going to pass.
I’ll be at Surf City in Feb this year though.
