Random Thoughts Running Through My Head

Running can help clear your head and untangle all those jumbled thoughts. It alleviates stress and anxiety and leaves you with a sense of well being and strength. Even thoughts that seem random can help focus the rest of your day.

I’m linking with Kim and Zenaida for Tuesday’s Topics so visit their blogs and a couple others to see what they have to say.

I took yesterday’s run to bike path at the beach. It runs along the ocean (duh) with a view of Catalina Island. Lately though my view has been marred by container ships coming from China. So my first thought was “When are we going to stop importing from China?” And “I need try harder to buy American made.” But then I thought “Do I have anything on one of those ships?” UGH!

So many container ships.

It was a warm sunny day so my next thoughts went something like this…

”Why are there so many people here?” “I guess it’s good people are out moving and getting exercise.”

“Really people? Do you need to take up so much room?”

”Phew, I’m glad I wore short sleeves. It’s so warm already.”

I had my dog Luna with me which automatically changes the dynamic of my run.

”She’s smiling at Luna. I love dog lovers.” I smile back. “Another person smiling at Luna” 🙂

“Ugh. There’s a dog up ahead. I should go around them. I really should have Luna trained so she will behave better.” “Okay that went well, she didn’t even care about that dog.” “I hope there’s no more dogs” “Ah, there’s another dog.” Eye roll.

My plan was to do 4 miles but mile 2 wasn’t where I thought it would be. I’ve done this route a million times you’d think I’d know all the turn around points by now. So in my head it went something like this…

”Why am I only here when mile 2 should be at my favorite spot?” “Or is that mile 3? “ “Ugh, I don’t want to run 6 miles. But I do want to go to my spot” “$hit, I’ll do the 6 miles and walk if I feel like it.”

My favorite spot on a different day.

I did stop and walk quite a few times because there were so many people and dogs to get around. At my turn around point I stopped for a picture then headed back.

“I wonder what that guys pace is. Maybe I can pass him. Oh good he has to walk too. I wonder if he’s running for a certain amount time and then walking a minute. Should I ask him? Nah.”

“Why would you camp here and sit in a parking lot? I guess if you live in a cold climate this would be a nice change. Still seems weird.”

”I’m hungry. Am I almost done? What should I eat? What should I make for dinner? “I should’ve got out earlier, I still need to go to Costco. What do I need again at Costco?”

And on and on until I finally finish my run. I wonder what’s thoughts go through Luna’s head when we run.

Do you have random thoughts while running or do you listen to a podcast or book and concentrate on that?

Thanks for reading!

Well, I am always thinking about what I will eat next! my friend and I do have some great discussions on our runs. Those sometimes lead to fun ideas

So many container ships! We have a few here in Cape Town as well, but only 2 or 3.

My thought while running past them was: how frustrating must it be to be a sailor on one of those container ships? For days you see the coast and the harbour but you can’t go on land?!

I too have thought of that. It must suck for them.

Wow, all those container ships. That’s nuts! Kinda reminds me of when I ran the Mobile half marathon. We drove out to Dauphin Island and looking out over the Gulf were all those oil rigs. Just lovely.

And that picture doesn’t even show the whole line of ships. It’s crazy!

    I love your beach views!!!

I do look at nature a lot and stop and take pics when I run (I don’t care about pace).

When I’m alone (which is most of the time) I do listen to podcasts. They keep me informed and entertained.

I have no problem stopping to take pictures either.
I like listening to podcasts or books on my long runs mostly.

If you don’t, you miss the beautiful things nature has to offer which is why I refuse to run on a treadmill.

You raise a very good question about China and all the imports. I always notice if other runners are carrying water and especially on hot days, I think they must not be running very far at all without it. Ha!

If only dogs could talk. What would they say? It would be interesting to know what they think about while out on a run with their owner. Sometimes when I see a dog and he/she barks, I do wonder they they’re barking. 🙂

I almost changed my post to what I thought Luna was thinking on our run. Maybe I’ll do a post sometime like that. I’m not sure I’m clever enough though. 😏

Good topic! I have two cats but they do not run with me. They do however are waiting for me by the door when I get home.
