I tried to be prepared for any and everything. I don’t like surprises or change. I’ve mentioned it before but I am a creature of habit and I rarely sway from my routine. As I have gotten older I have tried to be a bit more flexible because life brings change constantly with things always moving forward and I don’t want to be left behind.
There’s one routine I basically keep the same every time except a minor tweak every now and then…and that’s preparing for a race. This is what I do each and every time.
I’m linking up with Kim and Zenaida for Tuesday Topics. Thanks ladies for coming up with this weeks topic!
Summer running is hard. Itβs right up there with running in the wind…
Iβve been listening to audio books and podcasts on most of my runs lately…

Yes I always have to have coffee and yes it helps me go to the bathroom as well. I do like to lay out as much as possible the night before too.

Coffee is a definite must!

I’m not a coffee drinker (love the smell, abhor the taste), so I don’t have that option to “help” me in the mornings (sorry, TMI). I have never tried the Pepto chewables. I might have to find them…and experiment with them. Looks like you and I have very similar routines π

I also make sure everything is charged the night before a race. Nothing worse than having your headphones die during a race (which happened to me at mile 2 during a 10 mile race – I was miserable!).

Don’t you just hate that! My phone died halfway through a half so at the finish I couldn’t find my friends who also ran it because I couldn’t text them. I was pretty aggravated.

Definitely coffee! I did not include everything in my post but it looks like you and I have similar routines!
Denise | 23rd Aug 19
As runners I think we all have very similar routines for race morning. And yes, definitely coffee! π

You summed it up nicely. The more I have set the night before, the less stressed I am on race day.
Denise | 23rd Aug 19
That’s the goal, right? Less stress and a smooth start to your race. Thanks for reading Marcia.

Thankfully my stomach is pretty strong. I’ve only had issues in a race once, but let’s just say that race was not fun (although it’s still my half PR! — gotta love a downhill).
I am used to eating a lot of veggies, but I actually think that one bad experience may have been due to the salad — salad isn’t at all a problem for me, but I think I got a mild case of food poisoning from it (my husband ate everything else I had and he was fine).
I will say I didn’t have a salad the night before my next half. π
Denise | 23rd Aug 19
You’re lucky that you don’t usually have any issues. I can normally eat anything… except before a race. I’m not even positive salad is the culprit but I’m not taking any chances. π

Many people avoid fiber before a race. I don’t get super nervous, not usually, more excited.
Denise | 23rd Aug 19
I think it’s a nervous excitement for me. If that makes sense.
