Welcome back to Music Monday! This is a weekly post for motivational music to keep you moving. Today I am honoring a man who dedicated his (too short) adult life to (a)movement…the civil rights movement.
It is hard to believe that we are still living in turmoil, as if we are going backwards instead of forward. Martin Luther King Jr. set the stage for change, I wish we had done better by now. On the one hand we have come so far but on the other hand, shouldn’t this be a non-issue by now?
Today’s song comes from one of my most favorite artists who you will find on all my playlists, Stevie Wonder.

Stevie Wonder sang this song after giving a speech in Washington DC at a rally to make Martin Luther Kings birthday a national holiday. In his speech Stevie said “We ought to have a way to honor this human being and reaffirm the ideals he lived and died for . . . Designating his birthday a national holiday would create an event for all Americans, for Dr. King was a champion for justice and liberty.” (taken from the New York Post.) In 1983 Ronald Reagan signed a bill making MLK day a national holiday. This song was the anthem that got it all started.

I didn’t know either until I started researching songs. Ironically I wanted a Stevie Wonder song anyhow. He’s one of my favorites to run to.
