I thought I would put my feet up with a cup of coffee after Pilates this morning and then realized it is time for the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Deborah and Coco, how perfect. Let’s chat!
Over coffee I would tell you how as usual I am late to the party. I am obsessed with Downton Abby. I love how proper and polite everyone is and I love all the fancy clothes. Carson and Grandmama are my favorites. And I love the beautiful green scenery, although they rarely show it raining, and you know it must rain all the time. 😉
Over coffee I would share how I have learned (from TikTok, I’ve learned a lot from TikTok) that cage-free eggs only means they may not be in cages but are probably in crowded chicken coops which is basically the same. I have switched to pasture raised eggs which means they are outside eating grass. The yolks are bright orange as opposed to dull yellow, that can only be a good thing. I wish I could have my own chickens but that would never fly with Luna.
Over coffee I’d tell you how my husband is making me crazy with talk of retirement and wanting to leave Southern California. I love it here, I love the weather, the coast and the variety of landscapes. And of course my kids, step kids and grandkids are all here. What I don’t love is how apartment buildings are popping up everywhere, adding more people to an already crowded area. Anyhow it’s not like we are retiring tomorrow so I have time, or rather he has time to persuade me.
And finally over coffee I’d have to tell you that my daughter continues to run and added a 2nd mile for the first time today. And she mentioned maybe signing up for a 5k. Woohoo!
Have you watched Downton Abby? Any suggestions on places to retire?
That’s all for now, until next time…
Summer running is hard. It’s right up there with running in the wind…
I’ve been listening to audio books and podcasts on most of my runs lately…

My sister loves Downton Abbey but I’ve yet to watch it! i also want to check out the Gilded Age on HBO, I hear it’s very similar.
We’ve talked about retiring to Wisconsin, but I’m starting to feel that maybe I don’t want to do that. My parents are getting older and they are here…my boys are here…you get me..

I find Downton Abbey very peaceful. I don’t have HBO anymore, we recently got rid of a lot of extra streaming services.
Yeah, I thought you were retiring to the lake house. Isn’t it in driving distance? Would your boys move?

I can’t imagine wanting to leave Southern California! Why does your husband want to go- it’s getting too crowded? I don’t know… I think I would stay as close to my grandkids as possible.
I thought I was the only one left not watching Downton Abbey, but I see I’m one of two (me and Wendy!)
Congrats to your daughter! That’s exciting. I’m still hoping to get my daughter into running someday.

He wants property and the small town feel. He’s a family man so I know he won’t be happy away from the kids.
And I thought I was the only one who hadn’t watched Downton Abbey.
Fingers crossed that your daughter will catch the big one day. 😊

While you may be late to the Downton Abbey party, I have yet to board the bus. The hubby watched it (he did a couple years of military time in England, so he has a much bigger appreciation to the British way, LOL). I’ve seen a few clips, here and there, but it has not grabbed me (yet). Yay for your daughter! That’s great progress 😉

Once you get to know the characters you would probably get hooked. I enjoy it because it’s peaceful and not violent. My other show is Queen of the South which is quite the opposite.

Oh yes, Downton Abbey was great. Try Guilded Age when you finish it is similar and very good, I can see why you love living in California!
Denise | 8th May 22
I just cancelled HBO so I probably won’t be watching Guilded Age any time soon.
California is great but there are a lot of other great places to live for different reasons.

I’ve never watched Downton Abbey – it was one of those I kept saying I’d watch, but then never got around to it.
Southern California seems like it offers so many pluses – where does your husband want to go?
Denise | 7th May 22
He wants to move to Tennessee. I would have to LOVE it to move that far from California.

I’ve never watched Downton Abby but have heard a lot about it. I live in Chicago and hate the snow here but not sure where I would like to retire. I know I want it to be warm but not too hot.
Denise | 9th May 22
Well California has the perfect weather especially near the coast where it’s not usually ever too hot. I wouldn’t exactly call it a retirement state though because it’s so expensive here. Some people prefer Florida because its affordable and warm but it’s too humid for me.

Don’t even get me started on trying to decide where to live. While we have a loose idea of moving within 5 years, it’s not a hard & fast line in the sand.
I can tell you right now, except for the earthquakes & traffic, if I could afford to live in SOCAL I might! My brother has lived in Irvine for decades.
I did know that about eggs. My husband hates that I have so many “rules”. I look for Certified Humane on the box. I’ve always wanted chickens too! But not rooster, and I hear the hens like the roosters. Roosters can be mean & you never know when they’ll crow! When we lived in TX free roam chickens were seen sometimes, as many Hispanic people keep them as pets.
Denise | 13th May 22
Everyone always mention the earthquakes but I never think about it. I’ve lived here forever now and never had any damage from an earthquake. I used to think they were exciting but now I find them scary. Irvine has some of my favorite trails but I too cannot afford to live there. (especially now)
Chocolaterunsjudy | 15th May 22
Well that only means that you are due for a big one! We went to Santa Cruz a year after the big one & were so shocked by how little the city was back to normal.
We’ve also been in small earthquakes. The first one was actually in VT! 4 & under — but you can still feel them.

A friend of mine raises chickens so I’ve been spoiled with very fresh eggs. We planned on heading either South or West when our youngest heads off to college but now that Greg’s parents moved here, he wants to stay until they’re “gone”. Yay for your daughter!
Denise | 13th May 22
South and/or West sounds like a good plan. And my husband wants to go North or East. Ugh
