Coffee Talk: March 2020

Coffee talk seems to come around so fast. It’s that time when we can share a few things in our running or non-running lives. A big thanks to Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date link up!

The Ultimate Coffee Date

I’m going to jump right in and get the sad news out of the way so I can move on to better things…

Over coffee I would tell that our kitten was attacked by a coyote and did not survive. Some of you may already know from social media but it’s still on my mind of course and needed to share. My husband and I were at our cabin when my daughter called me early Saturday morning hysterical and gave me the devastating news. We packed up and went home to be with my girls and bury our sweet Oliver. This has been so heartbreaking that I honestly don’t know how people go on after losing a child. πŸ™

RIP little buddy.

Okay, sorry, on to better news.

Over coffee I would say that my marathon training is going well. I still don’t know how my legs are going to take me 26.2 miles but somehow they will. I have my longest run planned for Monday and hoping it’s not horrible. πŸ˜‰

Oh and I had a nursing student with me at the college the other day and she thought the Boston marathon was 32 miles. Good grief! (And no I didn’t weasel it into a conversation. We started talking about upcoming vacations. I swear!)

Over coffee I’d runfess that I had the briefest of worries that Boston would cancel the marathon over this Corona virus mess. I know it’s not Tokyo, but it is a huge event with a lot of people in a relatively small area, so… Wouldn’t that just suck though?!

And last but definitely not least,

Over coffee I would tell you about how my husband has been on a diet, using the Noom app. He’s doing a great job and has lost, I think, almost 20 lbs! I’ve been being the supportive wife and packing his lunch to keep him on track but he eats what I pack, so that’s good. The only downside is (and this is on me) I feel guilty when I eat the things that are not on his diet. Ugh. Even though I probably ran 7 (or 14) miles on any given day, and I generally eat healthy anyway. Like I said, it’s me, not him.

Well that’s all for now. I hope everyone is happy and healthy. I just want to say I love this tribe of people, and the support I get on a daily basis is truly appreciated!

Thanks for reading!

Congratulations to your husband! That’s incredible!

I am so sorry for the loss of your kitten. That’s terrible and I absolutely understand your heartache. With the warmer weather, the snakes are definitely out, we had a huge owl on our roof a few weeks ago who was absolutely hunting and a bobcat showed up at the door of one of our neighbor’s houses. It’s scary for our pets. πŸ™

We have the Gate River Run here on Saturday. It’s the largest 15K in the country and usually pulls in about 20,000 runners. There hasn’t been a peep of canceling. I won’t be running due to injury, but I’ve been following. We also have The Player’s (huge golf tournament) coming up next weekend. Again, it seems to be all systems go. I always feel like I’m more likely to catch something if I’m trapped inside, but out in the fresh air I have a better chance at staying healthy.

I agree that being outside is better. People think that we get sick because of cold air when in fact it’s due to staying indoors breathing each others germs.

Oh no so sorry about your kitten and how traumatic for your daughter. Glad to hear that training is going well for you, Fingers crossed this whole virus thing dies down over the next few weeks. Thanks for joining for coffee today!

Thanks Deborah. I’m not really worried about Boston being cancelled. It was a fleeting thought. It’s never been cancelled before so that’s good.

I’m so sorry about Oliver. I was just sick about it when I saw it on social media. The coyotes here are rampant. So very scary for little pets.
Fingers crossed Boston doesn’t get cancelled. I think you’re going to be just fine. I had someone tell me NYCM was “like the Boston Marathon, except shorter”. Hahaha!
    Congrats to your hubby!

Thanks about Oliver. It’s not like we live in a rural area, it’s pretty populated here but we know there are coyotes around and he was supposed to be in the house. πŸ™
I’m pretty sure Boston won’t be cancelled. That’s funny about NYCM being shorter. Lol.
Hoping my hubby stays on track and this becomes a lifestyle change.

I’m so sorry about your kitty! As Marcia said we have a lot of coyotes here and they love small dogs.

I hope Boston doesn’t get cancelled. I’m supposed to run a local 8k at the end of the month and they are ‘monitoring the situation’.

    • Denise | 9th Mar 20

I investigated more about the possibility of Boston being cancelled and it is highly unlikely. They say the race has never been cancelled before and most likely won’t be this year. But they might not be letting anyone from out of the country race, or high risk countries, now I don’t remember. Seems like your 8k should be safe. Good luck.

I’m so sorry about your kitty. :-(. Glad Zoom is working for your husband. It’s great that you’re being so supportive too. I try to support my husb but get annoyed when he doesn’t eat the healthy food he asks me to buy.

    • Denise | 9th Mar 20

      Thanks.
He needs all the support I can give, trust me. πŸ˜‰

So sorry to hear about Oliver. Our pets aren’t “just pets.” Hugs to you….

    • Denise | 9th Mar 20

Thanks Kim. They really are part of the family.
