Coffee Talk: December 2019

It’s wintery and feeling like Christmas here in Southern California. The perfect time to take a break from decorating and shopping and grab a cup of your favorite coffee, maybe snuggle with your pup and share some thoughts.

I’m linking with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date. Share the love and visit a few other blogs and leave a comment.

The Ultimate Coffee Date

Over coffee I would tell you… that I can’t wait for our 3rd annual family trip to Santa’s Village. There will be ice skating, bungy jumping, zip-lining, archery, hot chocolate and of course Santa! This year will be the first year with snow which worries me a little about road conditions and freezing temps. Not to mention the traffic going up the mountain with all the flatlanders seeking snow play. Keep your fingers crossed that people will stay home.

Over coffee I would tell you… my back is feeling good and I’m faithfully doing my core power yoga. Fifteen minutes 3 times a week is so doable. I’m also thinking about checking out Orange Theory Fitness. They’re putting in a new one close by with “special introductory pricing”. We’ll see how “special” it really is. My other concern (other than the price tag) is having enough time to marathon train, continue core yoga and do OTF. I seriously need to retire so I can workout more.

Over coffee I would tell you… I haven’t started training for Boston yet, which puts me a month behind schedule. My plan is to sign up for Revel online training with the same coach that I had for Revel Big Bear Marathon (my BQ race). He has run Boston several times and knows all the ins and outs of the course, so I’m confident he can get me to the finish line feeling good. My goal is to run comfortably and enjoy the experience. I guess I better get started.

That’s it for now. I hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas season.

Do you have any annual traditions? Do you wish you had more time for more workouts or do you manage to get it?

Update: I made it to the cabin, roads are clear but unfortunately internet service is terrible here so I’m having trouble adding pics. Not even sure if this will post. πŸ™‚

Thanks for reading!

I am semi-retired, LOL, and I STILL have trouble getting it all done! Even when I wasn’t working at all. I keep myself pretty busy with various hobbies (or decluttering the house, yet again, which is amazingly time consuming AND tiring).

I have to chuckle at wintry in SoCAL. Come shovel 2 ft of snow with me. Don’t get me wrong, my brother lives in SoCAL, I know it can get cold there — well, sort of cold — for a hot minute. πŸ™‚

I guess cold is relative to what you are use to. Rain and snow in the mountains is wintry for us here.
I’ll pass on the shoveling snow. πŸ™‚

Cold is definitely relatively, and having lived pretty far south & pretty far north I understand that very well. πŸ™‚

I’d like to pass on shoveling snow, too, but it is a good workout.

I look at all chores as a workout.

So glad to hear your back is feeling GOOD! I hope you’re having a blast at Santa’s Village. That was an adorable pic you posted on IG. I didn’t start training for Boston until late December so I think you’re fine. The best tip I can give you for Boston is do some hill training when you’re tired. Like in the last third of your long runs. That’ll prep you for Heartbreak. πŸ˜€

      Thanks for the tip!
We had fun at Santa’s Village even though it drizzled the whole time. They were nice enough to give us a free day to be used any time in the next 12 months.

Oh and also train for running DOWNHILL. Your quads will be screaming!

    • Denise | 8th Dec 19

I can do that. My qualifying race was all downhill. Thanks!

The trip to Santa’s Village sounds like so much fun! I’m sure you will enjoy it again this year. Hope you share some photos with us!

All the kids (big and small) love Santa’s Village. We got rained on this year but they gave us a free day to use any time in the coming year, so we’ll be going back when the weather is better.

I hope you’re having a great time at Santa’s Village. So funny that you call people out there ‘flatlanders’. That’s what people from Wisconsin call people from Illinois. Among other things…

Technically I am a flatlander because I live down the mountain and visit on weekends. I’m pretty sure we’ve been called a few choice things too. πŸ˜‰
