Runfessions for September

It’s the end of September which not only means the beginning of my favorite season but it’s also time to share some runfessions. It’s always good to cleanse the sole and start a new month fresh. I’m linking with Marcia for her monthly Runfessional.

Some of you may already know that my registration for the Boston marathon was accepted, woohoo! So of course I have to mention it. πŸ˜‰

I runfess that I want to tell everyone I see, even the ones that don’t know anything about how important it is or care. I’ve been pretty good about holding back but it’s been tough. I don’t want to be that person that manages to insert it into any conversation…

Random person: “Any plans for the weekend?”

Me: “No not really, just starting my training for the Boston marathon that I’ll be running in April.”

I runfess that I’m a little worried about my pace for Boston. Should I try for my qualifying pace? Can I just run a comfortable pace and enjoy the experience? Will the race officials see my pace and wonder if I had a mule qualify for me and kick me out of the marathon? Am I over thinking this? Ugh!

Okay change of subject to something totally unrelated to running. Many of you may know that I’m an ED nurse and work in one of, if not the, busiest emergency departments in southern California. We see a lot of people, and amongst those people we see a huge amount of homeless with mental health and drug addiction problems.

I just want to say that I runfess…

I am over the methamphetamine abuse problem in this country. It didn’t take long for there to be a ban on vaping products after a few deaths (not diminishing the importance of it) while meth is everywhere! I ask almost each and every person that comes to the ED if they use meth because it is that common, with heroin a close second. I’m truly over it. Californians complain that the cost of living and housing prices are the reasons for the homeless crisis but it’s a drug addiction problem, which is also causing the mental health issues (meth induced psychosis).

I wish I had an answer, but I don’t. Any suggestions? Why can’t people just be addicted to running and signing up for races like us? πŸ™‚

Lastly, I runfess that my blogging has been taking a back seat to everything else in my life lately. I’ve been working a little more than usual (not really sure why, just happened), my off weekends have been busy and I needed to update my php on the blog (whatever the heck that is) and I couldn’t figure out  how to do that. Fortunately HostGator did and fixed it in like 4 minutes. Also I’m struggling with coming up with new content that I think people want to read. I wonder if people really want to read about my weekly workouts…seems so boring. Ho hum. Having said that, I still read the other blogs in my niche and am so glad I found this group of bloggers who now feel like friends. To the point that I sometimes feel like a stalker. I’m not but I do spend way too much time scrolling through IG.

So that about covers it for now. I’m hoping to cut back on work hours so hopefully I’ll be putting up some “exciting ” new content on the blog. Until then I’ll be stalking reading yours. πŸ˜‰

Thanks for reading!

Keep running! (don’t do meth) πŸ˜‰

I enjoy reading your blog Denise. It feels like I kinda get to catch up with you a little bit, but it does make you miss you more too. I completely agree about the meth problems we see.in the ER. Definitely out if control. Again, congratulations on Boston!!! So incredibly proud of you. I remember you telling me about this dream many years ago and YOU DID IT!!! You are such an inspiration to so many (if only I could get into running πŸ˜”)…miss you lots!!!! πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

Thanks so much Jeanine! We definitely need to get together. I miss you too! πŸ™ We have a lot of catching up to do.

I don’t blame you one bit for wanting to shout about Boston from the rooftops. I’m SO glad you got in and I’m so excited for you to run! I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for you to see and care for who are suffering from drug addiction. So very sad and frustrating at the same time. Thanks for linking up!

I only expressed my frustration but it is very sad, especially when they are young and they haven’t ruined themselves yet but they keep coming back strung out. Ugh.

Congrats on getting into Boston! That is the one bucket list race I didn’t get to do. If it were me, I’d enjoy the ride!

I also marvel at how quickly eveyone wants to ban vaping products. We’re having a pretty serious issue in Chicago with murders and guns? Some legistation on guns would be good…

I can’t help but think there are a lot of crooked people getting rich off of drug and gun trafficking, creating a forever problem. Maybe I watch too much TV.
      Thanks re: Boston. πŸ™‚

I applaud for you and your nursing career. Especially in the ED, you probably see a lot of stuff that is hard to look at. I know I would be a blubbering idiot if I was in that setting (which is why I’m not LOL). So thank YOU, for doing what a lot of us wouldn’t have the strength or courage to do. And, yes, I think people’s weekly workouts are fun to read (not that I host a link-up or anything LOL). Often times, when I write up my weekly run down post, it becomes a lot more obvious why I may be having problems (fatigue, specific strained muscles, etc.) when I see it in print. Also, it’s nice to commiserate with others who may be experiencing similar frustrations. If you’re ever inclined to do so, join us (myself and Deborah) for the Weekly Run Down…it goes live at 1:00 EST on Sunday and is open until noon on Monday πŸ˜‰

I would love to join your link up as soon as my body gets moving again. I am currently healing from a back strain but hope to be back to normal by next week. Until then I will be reading posts from this wonderful tribe of runners. πŸ™‚
