Runfessions: February Edition

It’s the end of February and Spring is right around the corner. I love Spring flowers and longer days. You know what else I love? Runfessions. I love reading what other people are sharing and knowing I’m not alone in this crazy virtual world we now live in. Thanks Marcia for the runfessional.

I runfess that I am patiently waiting for the B.A.A. to open registration for the Boston marathon. I must know if I need to start planning a trip to Boston. I’m a planner and this is killing me. I must also  runfess that I don’t think I will be heart broken if I don’t get in. I think I’m over it and the thought of training for another marathon (even if it is Boston) is daunting.

*Google images* I searched for a Boston marathon meme and found tasteless, offensive and disrespectful results. So disappointed in humankind.

I  runfess that a few months ago I had microneedling done (it’s a procedure done on your face using tiny needles to puncture the top layer of skin to promote collagen production and smooth the skin surface) and it felt like someone took a sander to my face. No lie. I did this a few days before I got Shingles so now I connect the two even though the nurse in me knows there is no real connection. Well I bought a series of 3 sessions (because that’s what they recommend) and now it’s time for another “sanding”. What was I thinking? Ugh!

I  runfess that my husband has proven to be a good patient status post partial knee replacement. I must admit I was a little worried he was going to be a man-gina (that’s what we call man babies in the ED. 😉 ). But he’s been icing, elevating and doing his exercises just like he was told to do.  Go figure. My hubby never ceases to amaze me.

Is your husband a good patient or a big baby when he’s under the weather? Are you willing to endure a a little pain for smooth skin?

Thanks for reading!

I’d never seen those horrible Boston memes before. I just googled them. So disgusting. wow. My husband is not a baby. He says nothing when he’s hurt or sick. Glad to hear your hubby is doing well with his recovery and PT. Yikes on the microneedling. I never realized it was so painful. Thanks for linking!

My hubby is generally a baby but he rarely gets sick so I didn’t know what to expect.
If you ever get microneedling make sure they leave the lidocaine on long enough prior. 😬

Oops! My husband just informed me that I called him a baby. I meant to write that he’s generally NOT a baby Hahaha.

I had seen those Boston memes–I’ve googled in the past for blog posts. People are really something, aren’t they? My hubs gets cranky when he’s hurt but he’s no mangina. Once when we were at the lake, he was loading the boat on the lift and somehow it popped up–he grabbed it to push it back down and it landed on his arm. He didn’t make a sound but his face told the story. Later his arm was completely ecchymotic. I wanted him to go to the ER but he refused. He’s lucky he didn’t lose his arm or go into kidney failure (rhabdomyolysis). He’s tough! But stubborn.

Men. My husband can be stubborn (macho) too. He had something fall on his shin before but I wasn’t there so when he described it come in the the ER (I was working) to be checked for rhabdo. He turned out to be fine and was pissed at me for “overreacting”.

I love that gingerbread cartoon! My husband is pretty stoic and avoid seeking medical care even when he should get something checked out.

I guess I’m jaded because I see a lot of wimpy men in the ER.

My husband tends to be a good patient. It’s the before, when he’s totally stressing over every little thing, that’s a pain. Glad to hear your husband is doing the things he needs to do!

I’d be interested to hear how you feel about the micro needling when you’re all done — if you get all done. 🙂

    • Denise | 27th Feb 21

Yeah the before was like that.
I ended up not getting my next treatment because the nurse was afraid it might trigger a shingles outbreak. I’m going to see a dermatologist first to be cleared. No sense in taking any chances. I’ll let you know if it’s worth the time, money and pain afterwards. 😊

I would definitely not do it if it triggered shingles! Hope you get cleared!

So I just googled those images. Wow! Simply wow!!! When will the B.A.A. open up the registration?

    • Denise | 27th Feb 21

Right? Humans can be so disappointing.
I’m thinking the B.A.A. will open reg by April but probably March to give enough time to train.

I think most men “suffer” far more than women when they’re sick. My favorite meme on the subject goes something like this, “Now that I’ve gone through natural childbirth I know how my husband feels when he has a cold.” LOL

Hope you hear about Boston soon!

    • Denise | 28th Feb 21

I agree. I think some men just need to know we care.

I know how you feel about Boston. I signed up for the lottery to get into London and was actually relieved when I didn’t get in. The thought of training left me cold.

Good for your hubby for “manning” up after surgery. Hope he heals quickly.

    • Denise | 28th Feb 21

Thanks Laurie. He read my post (he never reads my blog) and didn’t like that I thought he was going to be a baby.

My hubby would be a baby. For sure.

    That micro-needling sounds scary.

I got the shingles vaccine. I wonder if that would have made a difference. But you have to be over 50.

I really hesitated about apply for nYC marathon again. I time qualified but I did not. Then I regretted it because the pandemic arrived and I could defer until 2023 if I wanted.

So maybe I am not meant to run it again.

    Good luck with Boston.

Sorry, I’m so late to the party on reading this! My man had something go awry with his knee during a race (well, actually after the race…when he’d stood still for an extended length of time). He whimpered and whined the entire 50-mile drive back home (from the back seat). Then, when we decided to go to the ER, he acted like he was in labor. Honestly, if he wasn’t in so much pain I would have laughed out loud. Of course, fast-forward a few years, and we’re off to a similar race this weekend…that he has not trained for LOL

    • Denise | 2nd Mar 21

Well I sure hope he doesn’t have any mishaps this weekend. For you and him. Mostly you. (Wink wink) Lol
