What Motivates You to Meet Your Fitness Goals?

I find that what motivates me changes constantly. When motivation is running low (no pun intended) I have to look for things to keep me focused. My motivating factors usually range from…

  • Good Weather: clear cool skies make me want to go outside.  (hasn’t worked out lately due to dreary days)
  • Upcoming race: As my half approaches (2 mo’s) I know I have to get in “x” amount of miles in order to be comfortable on race day.
  • Weight: You can pretty much guarantee if my jeans feel tight, I’ll be putting in a long run the next available day.

These are but a few of the many things that motivate me to run. Unfortunately as I get older, I’ve noticed that one cannot stay fit by running alone, and for me, it takes a whole lot more motivation to work my core than it does to go for a run. As you probably figured out I am a runner at heart. There’s very few weeks that I don’t run, maybe if I’m on vacation, but even then I usually run at least once. But core workouts…well… I can easily put off until a week or 2 has gone by and I haven’t even done 1 plank. This realization got me thinking about what I need to do to change the way I feel about core workouts.

Until now I’ve been randomly trying different strength training challenges…plank challenge, arm-sculpting challenge, squat challenge (squat challenge lasted a day, I decided pretty quick that squats suck and my knees don’t like them!). Go to my Pinterest board to see the squat challenge if you choose to torture yourself. 🙂  When you see the picture you’ll understand why I even attempted it. (to see the other challenges just click the challenge)

Lately I have been spending more time talking about working out rather than actually working out. It’s time to practice what I preach. 🙂

Bla bla bla

When I was doing the arm-sculpting challenge, I noticed a definite improvement in my running. I felt stronger…hmmm, imagine that?! So to continue to feel strong while running I need to stick to a well rounded fitness plan, and maybe I will finally get that elusive PR I’ve wanted.

In order to do this I decided to join the Team BeachBody ChallengeThis was introduced to me by my friend Amanda Nogra. She used to work with me in the ER until she moved to Maryland so her husband could go to Medical School. She now is a stay at home mom to 2 young boys and a fitness coach with Team Beachbody. Click the link above to see what it is all about. I know that it has changed her life and improved her health and well-being. See her before and after picture below.

My goal will be to do the Beachbody Challenge at least once a week. I will continue to run so I’m not sure if I will be able to fit this in more than once a week. I also have my yoga class and as the weather improves there’s cycling and hiking. (I seriously need to retire so I can fit everything in).

I will post a weekly update on my progress to hold me accountable (my motivation). If you belong to Beachbody Challenge or decide to sign up through the link feel free to leave a comment below on your progress or weekly challenges. I would love to hear how this has helped you meet your fitness goals.
